As part of the unit this topic of grammar introduces you to two expressions that should be used is different past situations.
First, "was/were supposed to" is used to talk about things we agreed to do, or other people expected us to do, but we didn't do.
Some examples:
I was supposed to book the restaurant for tonight, but I forgot.
We were not supposed to go to the meeting.
Then, "was/"were going to" is used to talk about plans we made in the past which didn't happen, or won't happen in the future.
Some examples:
We were going to move to Thailand next year, but we were offered better jobs here.
We were going to spend the weekend in Paris, but there was no free rooms.
Notice that in the expressions was or were is used according to the subjects that you have in the sentence, the expressions are kept in the same way and the main verb is used in simple form.
