There are some rules to follow first let's take a look to the slide:
When reporting questions there are some things to consider as you can see in the image. First there are two structures: Ask + object or Want to know. Second in yes/no questions we eliminate the auxiliary and use if or whether, which are synonyms, but in iformation questions keep the wh words. Third, always do the change in the verbs as it is done is positive and negative sentences.
