Extra Activity #2

For the first extra activity go to the following link and watch the video:

After watching the video answer the following question in a form of a paragraph and post it below.

How does equilibrium play a role in acid/base chemistry?

  1. Every reaction involving a weak acid or a weak base will eventually reach equilibrium, this means that the reactants and products (acids/bases) will be generated at the same rate.

  2. Equilibrium plays a role in acid/base chemistry specially in weak acids and bases because when a weak acid or base reacts with water they may reach equilibrium and in this point there is a certain amount of molecules that exchange protons with water. So, in a certain way the equilibrium point defines a rate of exchange between acids or bases and water.

  3. Almost every acid/base reaction is related to equillibrium, specially when is a weak acid or a weak base. If left alone in water they reach some equilibrium point, their molecules has an exchange currency with water.

  4. Equilibrium plays a role in acid/base chemistry because in general, molecules and reactions tend to reach a state of equilibrium. The special characteristic about acids and bases is that when they are near each other they will give or accept protons. When a base gives away a proton to an acid, the interaction between the molecules is fundamental when it comes to maintain life because an important amount of the reactions that happen daily in our body are driven by this exchange of protons. Even more important is the role that water plays, because water is an amphoteric substance that can give or accept proton depending on the needs of the other molecule, and we are made of good amount of water. The equilibrium reached by molecules that have a different pH helps natural processes to occur and explain the behavior of a lot of chemical interactions.

  5. Equilibrium plays a role in acid/base chemistry because the reactions tend to seek balance. An acid and a base to be near electrons are shared to reach that balance. These reactions usually occur between a weak base and a weak acid

  6. Equilibrium is a important part of acid-base chemistry because in a reaction (specially in weak acid and weak bases) with water the substance need to reach the equilibrium. When a reaction reaches the equilibrium an exchange between molecules protons and water occurs, that is a important part of reactions.

  7. In acid-base chemistry, equilibrium is important because is the state in which the chemical activities or concentrations of the reactants and products have no net change in time, and they can reach this equilibrium in aqueous solution because acid and bases, can exchange protons with water.

  8. Every chemical reaction has the need to reach equilibrium. In acid/base in water reactions, especially in weak ones, they tend to exchange protons either donating or receiving. There is a point where the acid/base can't exchange more protons, that's an equilibrium point.

  10. During every chemical reaccion there is an exchange of electrons and protons. Generaly when weak acids or bases react with water there will be in a certain point an equilibrium, were there is nothing else that can react. Also when acid and bases react there is always an inminent equilibrium of the reaction. Equilibirium is important because is when the reaction become stable.

  11. Every acid/base reaction should neutralized it self. It depends if one of those acids o basics. Change; Anticipate every diferent reaction that the mixture can have, depending if they're strong or weaks bases or acids.

  12. The equilibrium takes a really important role in acid/base chemistry, because in this reaction the protons of both substances change the same way and times so it looks like nothing happend in the case both were in to the water.

  13. The acids donate protons and the bases accept protons. When there is weak acid or base solution in water, the reaction is balanced, because the substances continuously accept or donate protons. It needs water for the weak acid/ base equilibrium, because water is a resilience and fair bank for acids and bases. Also the acid and bases can neutralize when they mixed in equal amounts.
